Train Ticket Booking Timings to Change

Train Ticket Booking Timings to Change – Railway passengers across India are about to see a noticeable shift in how train tickets are booked. Indian Railways is set to roll out a new ticket booking timing system starting 21 November 2025. The main goal behind this move is to make ticket booking safer, more transparent, and easier for regular passengers, especially those who depend on online bookings through IRCTC. For years, travellers have struggled with tickets selling out in seconds, misuse by touts, and fake accounts grabbing seats during peak hours. The updated rules are designed to tackle these problems by introducing Aadhaar-based verification and clearly defined booking hours.

Under the new system, train tickets can be booked only between 8 AM and 11 PM. This change aims to reduce unnecessary pressure on servers and avoid chaos during late-night or early-morning hours. Aadhaar verification will now play a key role, particularly for high-demand bookings and Tatkal tickets. Since millions of passengers rely on timely and secure reservations, these updates are meant to create a smoother and more trustworthy booking experience.

New Train Ticket Booking Timings and Aadhaar Verification Rules

As per the revised schedule, the 8 AM to 11 PM window will apply to all major ticket categories, including AC, Sleeper, and General Reserved classes. Earlier, booking attempts during odd hours led to uneven server usage and frequent disruptions. With fixed timings in place, the Railways expects better system balance and fewer technical issues, making booking more comfortable for everyone.

A major point passengers should note is the Aadhaar verification requirement between 8 AM and 10 AM. This period usually sees heavy demand when popular trains open for booking. In the past, touts took advantage of loopholes during this rush. Aadhaar verification helps ensure that real passengers are booking tickets themselves instead of using agents or automated tools. Linking Aadhaar with an IRCTC account is a simple process that involves mobile number verification and adds an important security layer.

Tatkal Booking Changes and OTP Verification System

Tatkal tickets are known for selling out extremely fast, often within minutes. To stop bulk bookings through fake or multiple accounts, Indian Railways has made Aadhaar-based OTP verification mandatory from 21 November 2025. When a Tatkal booking is attempted, an OTP will be sent to the mobile number linked with Aadhaar. The booking can move forward only after entering this OTP, ensuring that genuine passengers get priority.

In addition, during the first 15 minutes after Tatkal bookings open, only Aadhaar-linked accounts will be allowed access. This step directly targets bots and unauthorized agents who usually dominate the initial rush. Passengers who frequently rely on Tatkal tickets should link their Aadhaar well in advance to avoid last-minute trouble. Overall, this move supports the Railways’ effort to improve fairness and reduce fraud.

PRS System Upgrade and Impact on Booking Services

Indian Railways has also announced a major upgrade to its Passenger Reservation System, or PRS, scheduled between 14 November and 21 November. During this period, all booking and cancellation services will be unavailable daily from 11:30 PM to 5:30 AM. This includes online bookings, counter reservations, inquiry systems, and train chart preparation. The temporary shutdown is necessary to modernize the system before the new rules go live.

After the upgrade, passengers can expect faster response times, fewer errors, and smoother handling of peak traffic. The improved system will work better with Aadhaar verification and help prevent fraudulent activities. It is important to note that PRS counter bookings at railway stations will not be affected by Aadhaar rules once the upgrade is complete, keeping offline booking options open for those who need them.

Benefits of the New Train Ticket Booking Rules

The updated booking timings and verification rules bring several benefits, starting with better transparency. Aadhaar verification helps eliminate fake accounts and reduces the influence of touts, giving genuine travellers a fairer chance of getting confirmed tickets. Fixed booking hours also make it easier for passengers to plan their bookings without worrying about late-night rushes.

Another big advantage is improved system stability. With the upgraded PRS and structured booking hours, passengers are likely to experience smoother and more reliable online transactions. The introduction of a uniform 60-day advance booking period also helps travellers plan long-distance journeys more easily. Overall, these changes aim to make train travel planning simpler, fairer, and more passenger-friendly.
